  • Notes
    • According to family legend, my great grandmother Dora Crawford, was full blooded Cherokee....okay, why legend?
My great grandmother Dora, was left at the house of the Brock family in a basket, as an infant, and raised by the Brock family, as their adopted daughter, Georgann Vandora Brock.

By the time I came on to the scene, the story passed down to me was that my great grandmother was a full blooded Cherokee, who had married the son of Irish immigrant's.
All I can say for sure is, my great grandmother looked the part, with her high cheek bones and darker complexion, but her true background is kind of sketchy, with her being a basket baby, with no real background of her heritage.

Cherokee or not, she was a member of our nation's indigenous people in my dad and his brother, J.C.'s heart and mind.
DNA or not, if she was Cherokee to the those two men, that I loved and admired, that's good enough for me.....after all, most of our nation's early history is an amalgamation of facts and legend.
