It is with deep sorrow and much love that the family of Mr. Knox Edward Dayton announce his peaceful passing at his home on Friday, December 9, 2022 at age 82. He passed from having led a life full of love, kindness and adventures. Knox was a long time resident of Hiram, GA. formerly of Hiawassee, GA. Mr. Dayton was born on September 15, 1940, in Hiawassee, GA., the son of the late Cline Dayton and the late Ruth Moss Dayton. Knox was a loving and caring husband, father, brother, and grandfather. He enjoyed woodworking, raising llamas, and most importantly spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by his parents and also three brothers, Jack, Bob, and Bruce Dayton.
Surviving Mr. Dayton are his loving wife of fifty-eight years, Opal Dawn Payne Dayton of Hiram, GA., One daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Dennis Whitfield of Hiram, one son, Keith Dayton of Blairsville, two grandchildren, Devin Whitfield and Erin Whitfield, one brother, Hugh Dayton of Smyrna, GA., three sisters and two brothers in law, Wilda Bishop of Hiawassee, Wanda and Joe Rumfelt of Hiawassee, Madge and John Oswald of Anchorage, Alaska, numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, many other relatives, and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 12, 2022, at 6:30 pm at the Mountain View Chapel with Lisa Whitfield giving the eulogy. Interment will follow after a private ceremony at the Payne Family Cemetery. Flowers are accepted or if you wish, the family requests that donations may be made to the Alzheimer Foundation in Mr. Dayton’s memory. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Monday evening from 4:30-6:30 pm.
