Mitchell - Robert Uptagrafft, 71, of Mitchell, died Tuesday, October 19, 2004, in Sioux Falls. Services will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the Resurrection Lutheran Church in Mitchell. Graveside services will be in the Servicemen's Memorial Cemetery in Mitchell. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday evening at Bittner Funeral Chapel. A Memorial Fund has been established.
Robert Gene Uptagrafft was born June 2, 1933 at Mitchell to Harold and Marie Goldammer Uptagrafft. He grew up and attended school in the Mitchell area. He served in the US Army overseas during the Korean War. He married Sidney Eller June 17, 1956, at the Glenview Church at Fedora. He was employed by the SD Highway Department for 15 years, and Commercial Asphalt for 35 years. He was a member of the Resurrection Lutheran Church, American Legion, Moose Lodge, and Bowling League for many years, and had been a member of the VFW.
He is survived by his wife, Sid; a daughter, Lori Kluth and husband, David, of Mount Vernon; 3 grandchildren, Kim, Mike and Brian of Mount Vernon; 3 brothers, Wayne (Ila) Uptagrafft, Rochester, MN, Donald (Kay) Uptagrafft, Tucson, AZ, Richard (Marilyn) Uptagrafft, Stewartville, MN; 4 sisters, Darlene (Wilibrd) Hohn of Ethan, Doris (Ronald) Bender, Richfield, MN, Ruth (James) Wilson, Arlington Heights, IL, Joyce (Rodney) Klinger, Fulton; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
