    • George Terrell was a Revolutionary war soldier. He was reccomended as an Ensign in Cpt. John Minor's company 14 Aug 1777 and sworn into office Dec 1777. He was reccomended as First Lieutenant in Cpt. John Fitzhugh's Company May 1782. He was reccomended as Captain at July court 1793, as shown by the auditor's accounts. It is stated by his descendants that he was with the Virginia troops that were sent to reinforce Gen. Gates in North Carolina and that while on that tour, he served as a Major and was in the Battle of Camden, SC on 16 Aug 1780. After the war, he served commissioner of Taxes in St. Margaret's Parish north of the Mattapony (OB 1785-1787, p. 450 & 456). He was Sheriff in 1796-1797. In 1800, the Order Book (1799-1802, p. 78 & 79) mentions George Terrell and the late Sheriff of Caroline County and his son, Fleming, is mentioned as the late Deputy Sheriff. (Dicken, p.226)
