      John Thomas Eller, second child and oldest son of Henry Eller andBalinda Baily, was born July 29th, 1840 on the old home place fivemiles west of Bloomington, Indiana. He married Louisa M. Hensley,October 2nd, 1867. To this union three children were born: HenryAlva, Raymond H., and Herbert H.
      His second marriage was to Sarah Vandyke, September 6th, 1891. theirchildren were Byron V, and Thora E.
      John Thomas Eller enlisted in the Civil War August 15th, 1862, as amember of Company 1. 22nd regiment, Indiana volunteer infantry, as acorporal. He was discharged August 22nd, 1864, on account of woundsreceived at Missionary Ridge, February 18th, 1865: he enrolled in the145th regiment of Indiana infantry, in which he was quartermaster andlater lieutenant. He was mustered out January 1st, 1866, at Macon,Georgia.

Treasurer of Monroe CountyHorticultural society, Treasurer of the Republican Central Committee.Past Worshipful Master of the F. and A. M., member of the EasternStar, and G.
